We’ve an appeal for rugby boots, from Robert J Powell at the UN support base in Uganda.

We’ll let Robert explain in his own words:

"I took on coaching Entebbe Rugby 1st team for the start of last season as part of a community service initiative through my employer (United Nations Support Base, Entebbe Airport).

At the moment Entebbe Rugby Club is composed of 4 sides, a Local Men’s Union team known as the ‘Mongers’, 2 Junior Ladies team from various local orphanages and primary schools known as the ‘Sharks’ and the ‘Whales’, finally a Tag Rugby team from local school children who train and play on Saturday/Sunday mornings. Over a period of a week during the season we have upwards of 200 players either training or actively involved in matches.

We are hoping to get a junior boys team going for the start of the next season from November as we now have managed to generate significant interest through the success of! the girls teams in local competitions.

Thanks to previous donations of kit from various entities in the UK but especially Rugby Clubs in the Nottingham area I am overflowing with Rugby tops, however my main problem area is a shortage of proper footwear for players of all ages, hence this appeal. My last trip to UK for Easter produced 22 pairs of Junior sizes 4–7 which will be handed out in the next few days, however I didn’t manage to get anything so far for the senior Men’s and Ladies teams.

When you look in your kit bags come August and decide you want to buy a new pair of boots, don’t throw your old ones in the bin.

Put them in the post to JC and I will collect them from Maidenhead when I come back to the UK in September.

Many thanks for your support."
