Hi folks,

As you'll see from the list of great vacancies below, we're having a very busy time here at Ex-Mil HQ! The jobs keep rolling in and we're also hard at work getting ready for the UK Security Expo on the 29-30 November at London Olympia. You can visit us – or tell attendees to come say hello – at Stand L20.

If you're in the Exeter area, you can also meet JC in for specialist career advice arranged by the Royal Marines Charity on Wednesday 22 November. Click here for further details

Today (Thursday 2 November), some of London’s famous faces (and voices) will be supporting The Royal British Legion’s London Poppy Day in a bid to raise over £1 million for The Royal British Legion, making it the largest one-day street collection of its kind in the UK. Our very own JC will also be there, so please do dig deep on the day! A reminder that most shops will no longer take old pouind coins but the Legion will, so if you still have some knocking around, now's the time to get rid!

As if that all isn't enough, our shiny new website will be live in just twelve days, so please do take a look and let us know what you think! We'd really love to hear from you, so do pop by our Facebook page or drop Annette an email with any issues or feedback.

Drop us a line on [email protected] if there's anything you'd like us to add to this newsletter.

Regards,

The Team

Nominations Open For The UK's Largest Celebration of Ex-Forces Personnel in Business

We're delighted to announce that the British Ex-Forces in Business Awards – a major new event and the UK's largest ever celebration of ex-forces personnel in business – is now accepting nominations for its 2018 awards programme.

Servicemen and women spend years adapting to roles and gaining valuable skills. They develop qualities that are readily transferable and in demand in the business world, but transitioning back to civilian life can be a challenging period marked by uncertainty, anxiety and frustration, both for service leavers and their families.

The British Ex-Forces in Business Awards uncovers the  achievements of business leaders who previously served in the forces, providing them with a large-scale, national platform to be role models for the thousands of military leavers each year.

The high-profile event on 10 May in London will not only gather hundreds of business leaders to reveal and celebrate the winners, but also bring together top organisations to promote the skills gained in the military, raise awareness of resettlement issues and further dialogue around the importance of ex-forces
employment initiatives.

Nominations are now open and close on 15 December. If you know somebody who deserves to be recognised at these prestigious awards, make sure they are nominated by
submitting an entry for free at exforcesinbusiness.co.uk.

5 good reasons for doing a university management degree online

  • To get significantly more money
  • If you want a career, not just a job
  • To make resettlement much easier
  • For international opportunities
  • Your Services role makes it uniquely possible at this time.

www.onlineuniversitymilipol.com  works with military and ex-military candidates worldwide. We pilot you through the university acceptance process by turning your Services experience into ‘academic points’ so that you are offered an online university place. There is no charge for this work (i.e. it is paid by the university’s online provider) so you can find out if you comply without obligation. We remain with you throughout your study and will even attend the graduation ceremony on your behalf if you are abroad.

The cost of online study is significantly less than that of attending university and, more importantly, you do not need to stop working whilst gaining your degree.

One of the big advantages of online study is flexibility, particularly when you are unable to commit to a fixed weekly schedule. You might even finish earlier than an attending student if you are able to put in more time but your qualification and benefits will be exactly the same. Additionally, you can start immediately after acceptance rather than waiting for the next year like an attending student.

Joke: The tramp

I was walking down the street when I was accosted by a particularly dirty and shabby-looking tramp who asked me for a couple of dollars for dinner.

I took out my wallet, extracted ten dollars and asked,"If I give you this money, will you buy some beer with it instead of dinner?"

"No, I had to stop drinking years ago," the tramp replied.

"Will you use it to go fishing instead of buying food?" I asked.

"No, I don't waste time fishing," the tramp said.."I need to spend all my time trying to stay alive."

"Will you spend this on hunting equipment?" I asked.

"Are you NUTS!" replied the tramp. "I haven't gone hunting in 20 years!"

"Well," I said, "I'm not going to give you money. Instead, I'm going to take you home for a shower and a terrific dinner cooked by my wife."

The tramp was astounded. "Won't your wife be furious with you for doing that?

I replied, "Don't worry about that. It's important for her to see what a man looks like after he has given up drinking, fishing and hunting."
