In this day and age the word “Engineering Sector” encompasses a wide variety of disciplines.

Many of these can be found within the Armed Forces like Civil, Structural and Marine Engineering, Electrical and Mechanical Engineering and of course Systems and Telecoms Engineering to name but a few. This also includes Interdisciplinary Sectors.

I currently work in the RAF within the ICT trade, particularly in the Airfield Navigational Systems field within the junior management bracket. I have been in this trade since joining the RAF in 1997 and have worked from the basic shift technician, through to equipment installer and test and integration engineer. This then lead to becoming a Specialist Equipment Instructor in the datacomms field followed by a return to Airfield Navigational Systems area. I am due to leave this role in November 15 but will be available from the middle of July by utilising a period of work attachment and terminal leave.
