My client is a world leader in the development and manufacture of hazardous material detector simulators, most notably in the fields of military Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear (CBRN) defence, civil response and the Nuclear industry. By combining strong relationships with many of the leading detector manufacturers with the development of versatile new platforms for professionals responsible for delivery of the highest standards in training, he offers world leading products to ensure safe and cost effective training.

The company now wishes to considerably expand its sales capability worldwide and now seeks two experienced Business Development Managers whose role is to identify further business opportunities for development into profitable orders. The roles will report directly to the Business Development Director and will work alongside the existing Sales Managers.

The Roles

Following initial product familiarisation you will be expected to work closely with the Business Development Director and his sales team to gain an understanding of the company’s simulation pedigree. You will quickly become aware of pending opportunities and potential business that has been identified within the sales pipeline. In parallel you will assess new markets and regional sectors to highlight short, medium and long term projects which can be assessed and then developed into future business.

Creativity, passion and sheer determination will all be key drivers to success. This is a solution selling role. The sales cycle starts with trials and demonstrations all aimed at educating the client and their organisations to the benefits of the client’s simulation solutions.

The Person

Reporting to the Business Development Director, you will have exceptional client facing skills delivered in an engaging and professional manner. It is essential that you have the ability to multi task and simultaneously retain information across a wide range of opportunities.

Key Skills and Experience

You must have:
• Knowledge and proven track record of solution / consultative selling to Government organisations;
• Experience of selling in international markets;
• Good tertiary education;
• Presence and an engaging style: the ability to discuss, demonstrate and define technical solutions with customers and deliver convincing presentations to clients and end users;
• The ability to appoint and control international representatives;
• The ability to quickly grasp and quickly understand new technologies;
• An understanding and experience of working within an owner run small enterprise;
• Enthusiasm, energy and drive with an engaging personality;
• Personal commitment and dedication to closing opportunities;
• Gravitas within the customer community;
• Excellent communication skills, oral and written;
• A pragmatic, realistic attitude and not be afraid of getting things wrong;
• Trustworthiness, with sound judgement;
• Knowledge of CBRN, EOD or related simulation training aids would be highly desirable but not essential.

Location

The role will be based in Bedfordshire. However, it’s understood that the role will require considerable travel both within the UK and within the international market. As long as the candidate lives within a commutable distance from the business, relocation would not be required.

Travel

The candidates should be able to travel internationally at short notice. These visits are often of short duration but occasionally they could spread across several weeks on the longer distant trips. 25% of your working time could be spent outside the UK.

Remuneration

• Depending on experience: Salary up to £50,000pa, OTE up to circa £85,000pa.
• A company car allowance of £385pcm will be paid together with business mileage.
• Pension: Invited to join after completing the six months probation period. The pension is based on Stakeholder scheme 5% personal contribution + 6% company contribution.
• 33 days annual leave including English public holidays.
• Death in service benefit.
• A laptop and Smartphone PDA will be provided.
