My Client provides heavy equipment transportation services to the Army in peacetime and during conflict scenarios. An opportunity has arisen for a number of personnel to become operators (HGV Drivers) for my Client, who owns, operates and maintains the Heavy Equipment Transporter (HET) fleet. Training will be given; elements of the Military training are tailored to take account of previous experience.

Job Description
• You will be based from home; work will be divided between driving the fleet of Oshkosh HETs, and civilian HGV vehicles based in your home region.
• Your residential location is not important, subject to the limits in ESSENTIAL CRITERIA below, but a willingness to be flexible and to work away from home is essential.
• You will be required to undertake Military Training and become a Sponsored Reservist joining the Reserve Forces. A Sponsored Reservist is a Volunteer and is a member of the Reserve Forces.
• My Client’s Sponsored Reserves will be affiliated with one of the Tank Transporter squadrons.
• From time to time, you will be required to go on operational deployment. You will remain an employee of my Client whilst under Army command, he will continue to pay your salary and benefits will continue to accumulate.
• You will be required to undertake at least 5 weeks training per year. This could be individual or collective training with the affiliated squadron.
• You will be required to comply with my Client’s Health, Safety and Environment policies and procedures.

These roles have 3 areas of responsibility, peacetime tasking, commercial tasking and Sponsored Reserve tasking.

Peacetime Tasking
Report to: The Tasking Manager or Team Leader responsible for the task
Description: To undertake the task of collecting and delivering armoured and other military vehicles safely and on time.

Responsibilities:
• Carry out Vehicle safety checks in accordance with Company Operating Procedures (COPs)
• Drive Special Types General Order ( STGO) category 3 vehicle on and off road, laden & unladen
• Comply with COPs
• Supervise loading and securing loads
• Complete Company & Legislative vehicle and driver records
• Achieve maximum efficiencies from HET when driving
• Adhere to previously authorised and advised routes
• Complete daily or weekly job records
• Carry out routine maintenance tasks on HET
• Maintain accident free driving record
• Carry out tyre cutting duties as required
• Carry out escort duties as required
• Double crew with regular driver tank transporter operators, as required
• Work within the requirements of the quality plan - follow approved procedures / participate in total quality and continuous improvement programmes / assist in preventing, identifying and resolving quality problems.

Commercial Tasking
Report to: third party client’s nominated manager and Client’s line manager
Description: To carry out driving and other related tasks for 3rd party clients, adhering to the Client’s high standards of professionalism.

Responsibilities:
• Report to third party client premises by predetermined time
• Comply with third party client procedures
• Report concerns over vehicle safety / third party client procedures to Head office tasking team as soon as discovered
• Carry out Vehicle Safety Check in accordance with the third party client’s COPs
• Drive third party client Vehicle on route advised by third party client
• Load and unload vehicle as required
• Adhere to third party client operating procedures
• Complete third party client records / paperwork as advised.
• Maintain accident free driving record

Sponsored Reserve
Report to: Military chain of command.
Description: Undertake military duties on training, exercises and operations.
Responsibilities
• Primary task - Operate the HET under Military command
• Undertake other Military Tasks
• Comply with Military Law and Regulations
• Attend all compulsory training for a minimum of 35 days per annum, including weekend and unsocial hours
• Pass Military Annual Training Tests (MATTS) including Personal Fitness Test (PFT) twice per annum.
• Maintain fitness and equipment in order to carry out duties effectively and comply with regulations.
The Operator will also carry out any other reasonable task requested

ABSOLUTELY ESSENTIAL: DRIVING LICENCE AND EXPERIENCE
Applicants should:
• Hold a current UK licence with categories C+E (HGV 1);
• Have a MINIMUM of 2 years COMMERCIAL experience with categories C+E articulated; and
• Have not more than 6 penalty points on their licence.

OTHER ESSENTIAL CRITERIA
Applicants must be:
• Resident in mainland UK (excludes Eire, Northern Ireland, Isle of Wight, islands off the Scottish mainland connected by ferries etc)
• A highly professional driver with a strong sense of Company and team loyalty.
• Extremely trustworthy and responsible.
• Able to work alone and as part of a team.
• Intimately familiar with and adhere to road traffic and vehicle laws and regulations.
• A British passport holder.
• Aged 21 to 52.
• Able to achieve a GTI score of at least 42 points.
• Able to pass medical examination as laid down in Pulheems 2000.
• Able to pass representative military tasks.
• Eligible to join UK Reserve Forces.
• Willing to become and remain a Sponsored Reserve and uphold their commitments as an SR.

Desirable criteria – it would be desirable if applicants are:
• Able to understand and apply Drivers Hours and Tachograph regulations
• Holders of an ADR Licence
• In possession of a Clean Driving Licence
• Ex RLC ( Royal Logistics Corps) Driver 110
• A Minimum age of 25.

This is a salaried position, with an annual salary of £26,455 for an average of 48 hours worked – averaged over a rolling reference period of 17 weeks. There is potential for uplifts and allowances, depending on deployment on training and operations, as well as for the Reserve Forces bounty, subject to eligibility. Other benefits are:

• This position attracts 28 days holiday, including Bank Holidays, per year increasing to 33 days after 5 years.
• There is a stakeholder pension after 2 years continuous service.
• Life Insurance: my Client will reimburse you for up to 8 units of RPAX per month.

This opportunity is open to personnel who have previously been of any rank or trade in any Service, subject to the possession of the necessary qualifications and other criteria detailed above. However, it should be noted that Sponsored Reserves in this role currently serve only at the rank of private or lance corporal.
