My client, who are one of the UK’s leading Engineering Support services companies are now looking to recruit an Installation and Assembly Team Leader to join the team based in Ashchurch, Gloucestershire

Job Purpose:

The Installation and Assembly Team Leader is a customer facing role reporting to the Technical Services Supervisor. The role is responsible for the installation and assembly of sub-contractor supplied manufactured items, minor modification to supplied parts, prototype manufacture, maintenance of all machinery within the installation and assembly area, and to support Services and embedded requirements as requested by the Technical Services Supervisor. The role is also responsible for all Facilities Management activities required to maintain the business unit premises. The role does require occasional travel and limited deployment at locations both in the UK and overseas.

Main Accountabilities:

• To transition the current traditional workshop environment into a cost effective installation and assembly area that:
1. Utilises computer aided engineering technology or modern machinery as appropriate to economically deliver prototype mechanical components.
2. Provides space and appropriate tooling for vehicle, container and enclosure communication and electrical installations.
3. Provides assembly areas for enclosure, rack, component and project related builds.
4. Provides a welding and locksmith facility.
• To identify, create and apply appropriate team training and mentoring packages to support the transition to a flexible, mobile, multi-skilled installation and assembly engineering team.
• To create and document the installation and assembly processes required to facilitate the creation of a cost effective installation and assembly facility with flexible, mobile and multi-skilled staff.
• Control and allocation of installation and assembly resource to provide the Prime Contract Programme Office (PCPO) and Solutions team with appropriate resource to facilitate task and project requirement collection, design, production using sub-contractor arrangements and support as required.
• Allocate installation and assembly resource as required by the Technical Services Supervisor or PCPO to general TSF tasks and Services e.g. Electrical Safety Testing, driving, mechanical handling tasks, site escorts, stores support, installation and engineering tasks.
• To act as a build manager for any assembly required by TSFs.
• To support the PCPO and the Solutions team as required in the preparation of estimates, bid documentation, specification, pricing, tender, Gate and proposal documents for new opportunities.

• As part of the BU’s Governance procedures, review, amend and supply SME approval as necessary for the installation and assembly elements of TSF estimates.
• Produce installation and assembly documentation as required in support of TSFs.
• To control, plan, deliver and hand-over installation and assembly TSF tasks.
• To act as the customer interface for all aspects of installation and assembly TSF tasks.
• Responsible for supervisory control of all company and sub-contractor staff employed on installation and assembly related TSF tasks.
• Responsible for all aspects of Health & Safety including Construction (Design and Management) CDM 2015 regulations for all personnel within the installation and assembly area whether engaged on installation and assembly related tasks or not.
• To ensure that all installation and assembly related method statements and risk assessments are produced, approved and briefed to the installation and assembly team prior to undertaking any installation and assembly task.
• To ensure that the installation and assembly team works in a safe and efficient manner at all times to produce quality assured products.
• To validate and certify mechanical components and builds, through “fit for purpose” and QA inspections at Contractor, sub-contractor and company sites, ensuring that the necessary processes are adhered to.
• To ensure that all Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for the installation and assembly area are maintained and current.
• To ensure that the installation and assembly team manufacture (prototype or modification) and install all systems or components to appropriate engineering standards, ensuring best practice is employed in all activities.
• To ensure that all installation and assembly activities are undertaken in compliance with installation and assembly QMS processes.
• To ensure that all installation and assembly staff are appropriately trained and qualified to assist with Portable Appliance Testing (PAT) and/or Locksmith Services at any sites in the UK or overseas.
• Act as FM controller for all business unit premises and to plan, organise and facilitate all required FM activities.
• To contribute to increasing the competiveness of the Programmes and Engineering function provided to customer’s so that Babcock becomes the supplier of first choice.

• To ensure appropriate communication is maintained with all stakeholders to create and maintain strong, lasting relationships with customers, suppliers, Service sponsors and Company stakeholders.
• To enhance Babcock’s reputation by ensuring that all your assigned tasks are delivered by your team in a professional manner and meet or exceed expectations.
• All line manager responsibilities for the installation and assembly team which shall include:
• Skills management.
1. Mentoring.
2. Appraisals.
3. Accurate time recording and checking of employees returned hours.
4. Accurate return and checking of employees’ claims forms.
5. Use of company E-rec electronic material ordering system.
6. Use of Neptune.
7. Toolbox checks.
8. Achievement of target 85% utilisation figure against fee paying work for all staff.
9. General welfare.
10. Training and personal development.
• To ensure all installation and assembly tasks comply with the Change Control requirements of the Business Unit.
• To provide, as part of Information Assurance (IA), support to the Senior Information Risk Owners (SIROs) and Information Asset Owners (IAOs) to foster good cyber culture and behaviours to satisfactorily manage the BU’s information risk.
• To comply with the Data Protection Act (DPA) to provide the appropriate level of control of all personally identifiable information to which you and your team have access as part of their role.
• To ensure that all relevant IA and DPA control measures are enforced within the team.

Person Specification

Knowledge, Qualification and Experience:
• Must hold a mechanical engineering HNC/HND qualification or a time served indentured mechanical apprenticeship.
• Desirable to be an Incorporated Engineer (IEng) registered with the Engineering Council in an appropriate engineering discipline.
• Must be diplomatic, assertive and a clear communicator in all forms.
• Must possess an adequate knowledge of and compliance with the Health and Safety policy and regulations consistent with their responsibilities as an Installation Team Leader.
• Must possess or be willing to gain a Site Management Safety Training Scheme (SMSTS) qualification.
• Must possess (or be willing to gain) an adequate knowledge of Construction (Design and Management) 2015 regulations and be able to represent Babcock in the role of Principle Designer.
• Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with resource managers, installation team members, clients and superiors at all levels and in all areas of management.
• Must possess good interpersonal skills and be able to form good relationships with customers and external groups.
• Must possess a basic record of proven ability in CNC Setting and programming.
• Must possess a good understanding of computer aided engineering technology or modern machinery as appropriate to economically deliver prototype mechanical components.
• Experience in vehicle re-fits is desirable.
• Relevant, practical experience in a related environment.
• Experience of sheet metal fabrication.
• City & Guilds 2377-22 Portable Appliance Testing (PAT).
• Working knowledge of the Code of Practice for the In-service Inspection and Testing of Electrical Equipment (4th Edition).
• A good working knowledge of Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, SharePoint and Project.

The Installation and Assembly Team Leader must be able and willing to:
• Work Core Hours as specified within the Engineering Services contract.
• Work extended hours both abroad and in the UK when necessary.
• Travel abroad and in the UK when necessary.
• Undertake any duties over and above those listed, within reason, as directed by the Technical Services Supervisor.
