Armourer/Gun Fitter (166jc) vacancy in Bovington, Dorset ()

My client, who are one of the UK’s leading Engineering Support services companies are now looking to recruit a Armourer/Gun Fitter to join the team based in Bovington, Dorset.

This would be an ideal role for an individual who has previously served in the Army (REME Armourer) with experience in a similar role.

Your role will be to provide maintenance, repair and overhaul, on CR2 Armoured Fighting Vehicles including diagnostic and inspection duties. Carrying out equipment examination to meet production requirements. With opportunities to work on a wider variety of Armoured and Wheeled vehicles at BDSG Bovington sites.

Responsibilities
• Carry out work to the required standard and specification as detailed in accordance with AESP’s, customer requirements, current regulations, local instructions, process plans and other technical publications.
• Undertake diagnostic and inspection duties on equipment.
• Ensure that time cards are filled out correctly daily.
• Complete equipment documentation and test certificates / reports.
• Ensure stores and equipment issued to job are used for their correct purpose.
• Maintain the requirements of COSHH, Health & Safety and other statutory regulations.
• Ensure a good standard of housekeeping, cleanliness and safety in the work area and to ensure the correct disposal of any hazardous or waste products.
• Maintain tools and equipment in a good serviceable order, reporting any faults to the Team Leader and be responsible for their security at all times.
• Consult Team Leader regarding any problems affecting the repair process, especially when additional work is deemed necessary.
• Consult Team Leader regarding any problems affecting Quality or Health & Safety.
• The post holder will be required to work flexibly and should be prepared to perform other tasks that are outside the normal duties of the post but are within the capabilities and grade
• Always look for Continuous Improvement and efficient ways of working, promoting good ideas and suggestions.

Qualifications & Requirements
Essential:
• Class 1 Armourer/Gun Fitter (30 – 150mm) for the British Forces, or equivalent.

Desirable:
• CR2 experience
• H licence VOSA or equivalent

Security
SC Security Clearance will be required for this post

Sponsored Reserve Opportunity
This opportunity may enable you to be employed as a Vehicle Fitter while serving as a Sponsored Reserve for the Power Pack Regeneration Facility (PPRF). The Sponsored Reserves concept enables the Ministry of Defence to enter into a defence contract on condition that an agreed proportion of the contractor’s workforce has a reserve liability. Such personnel are known as Sponsored Reserves (SR). Under Part V of the Reserve Forces Act 1996 (RFA 96), SR have special liabilities for reserve service, military training and call out.

My client has a contractual obligation to provide a SR capability to operate the PPRF within DSG. To fulfil this obligation they are actively seeking personnel to volunteer to serve as Sponsored Reserves alongside their normal employment. Being a Sponsored Reserve offers additional remuneration and personal development opportunities. Individuals will be required to meet the requirements set by the Ministry of Defence: Technically SQEP to Class 1 or 2 Military Engineer or equivalent Aged between 18 and 52 years at time of application to join the Army Reserve Medically fit Physically fit Able to attend a maximum of 38 days military training per annum (including “annual camp” 14 days) Able to deploy with the field Army when required for periods of up to 6 months overseas”
