Workshop Foreman (224sk) – Hemel Hempstead – Salary Commensurate with experience

Our client is the South East’s specialist professional plant and equipment partner, supplying, maintaining and providing parts and service for a world leading brand of construction and industrial equipment.
They are now seeking an experienced heavy plant Workshop Foreman for their Hemel facility, reporting directly to the workshop engineers and Regional Service Manager.

As Workshop Foreman they will manage the efficiency and productivity of the Hemel workshop. All Workshop Engineers will report in to you, additionally, when Field Service Engineers are working within the workshop, they will be responsible to you.

Key Objectives
Manage the efficiency and productivity of the workshop.
Responsible for Health & Safety of the workshop.
Responsible for agreed levels of workshop housekeeping.
Responsible for the buildings and yard.
Ensure quality control of all work carried out in the Workshop.

Key Activities

- General Engineering duties – oversee and undertake where necessary.
- Take responsibility for health and safety of self, colleagues, customers and contractors within your area in line with the Company Health and Safety Policy.
- Manage the efficiency and productivity of the Workshop Engineers also Field Service Engineers when working in workshop.
- Ensure workshop engineering standards are met/exceeded in relation to new machine PDI, warranty and retail repairs.
- Control of Workshop Engineers in terms of time booked to job etc. This will include the management of lost time and idle time. Especial focus on efficiencies (RTS) to ensure best engineer suited to work and maximised productivity.
- Day to day management of apprentices and their training, ensuring each is appropriately mentored and is exposed to a variety of engineering work to build up their skillset and experience.
- Responsible for Quality Control of all workshop jobs carried out including relevant paperwork.
- Control of all machines delivered to and collected from the depot including all paperwork.
- Responsible for vetting all workshop warranty job cards and for maximising warranty recovery from equipment provider.
- Ensure your team are aware of their duties and the importance of following company procedures and maintaining standards.
- Maintain and exceed excellent customer relations/expectations and instill customer care values in all employees, whilst maintaining profitability.
- Deal with any customer complaint ensuring a speedy conclusion.
- Ensure computerised and administrative systems provided are operational and used to their full potential.
- Ensure all invoices are dealt with promptly and within given deadlines at the agreed frequency.
- Co-ordinate and organise your team so they can work to their best of their abilities.
- Interact with the manufacturer and suppliers as appropriate.
- Update team members with relevant information as necessary (jobs complete).
- Achieve and meet strict deadlines.
- Contribute to the overall success of the client through teamwork and good communication within the Company.
- Remain flexible to requests and requirements of the role.
- Present a professional image at all times

Skills

- An experienced and qualified plant engineer.
- Knowledge of workshop systems and processes.
- A good organiser with proven experience of managing and motivating a small team.
- Ability to work in a pressurised environment with multiple demands.
- Good interpersonal skills.
- Efficient Administrator.
- Computer literate with basic knowledge of both Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel
- Honest

- Customer focussed.

This role would ideally suit an experienced plant engineer with a strong management background, ideally within the commercial sectors. Possibly former Artificer REME or Naval/Airforce equivalent.
