Mechanical Engineer vacancy in Caterham, Surrey (103jc)

My client one of the leading ballistic companies are now seeking to recruit an additional Mechanical Engineer to join this expanding and developing company

Your role will be to assist in the design and development of new and existing products for optical and acoustic ballistic detection.

An ideal individual would be an experienced mechanical design engineer, with experience of designing for challenging temperature and environmental conditions as well as being fluent in AutoCAD, Solid works or Solid edge design software

A hands-on approach is very much desired, shepherding the new designs though testing, modification and into serial manufacture.

You should be driven and react well to challenges and changes in schedule, as the products may require customisation to meet specific requirements as well as an understanding of mechanical constraints, such as IP ratings and form factors. You should be capable of managing own workload and react accord to current demands

The role will be as follows:
• Design of mechanical enclosures and mechanisms for use in ballistic detection for both indoor and outdoor environments.
• Interpretation of specification data from the customer to design appropriate environmental solutions.
• Produce manufacturing drawings for prototypes and products
• Maintain configuration control of drawings and issue numbers against a material requisition program (MRP) ensuring the correct issues are loaded prior to orders.
• Produce designs that are appropriate for the environmental requirements, such as IP ratings, and relevant MIL standards.
• Selection and act as primary technical contact with suppliers, negotiating or altering designs balancing cost delivery and quality, depending upon requirements.

The skills needed for this role will be:
• 2D mechanical design using legacy AutoCAD software
• 3D mechanical design using Solid works, Solid edge equivalent.
• Preparation of 3D files for CNC machining or 3D printing.
• Experience of appropriate material selections / grades of materials.
• Production of drawings to relevant British and ISO standards
• Experience in the following packages would also be highly beneficial, AutoCAD, Solid works, Solid edge (Siemens), MRP experience (Jobshop, Encore, SAP)

The ideal individual would probably be someone from an engineering background, who has experience of ballistics and/or weapons, who would have a minimum of C&G level qualifications.
