My client, who are an independent international organization, created by agreement between the Arab Republic of Egypt and the State of Israel, with peacekeeping responsibilities in the Sinai.

They are now seeking to recruit a Heavy Vehicle & Plant Foreman who will report to the Vehicle Maintenance Supervisor (VMS).

In this role you will be responsible for planning for, directing and supervising, the work in the VMF Body Shop & Fabrication workshop. He / she is to ensure that the work is carried out in accordance with Company regulations, VMF Operating Procedures and his / her supervisor’s instructions in a rational and economic manner which meets the needs of both the customer and the company.

Therefore, your responsibilities will include:

• Provides the workshop technicians with instructions and direction. Plans / updates the work / shop production schedule daily in conjunction with the Service Advisor / WO Clerk. Guides, trains and supports the technicians during troubleshooting and repairs regarding quality of work, efficiency, economic use of materials and timely completion of tasks. Ensures that customer expectations have been met when the vehicles are returned.
• Uses Electronic Diagnostic Tooling to trace complex faults and provide feedback to the staff to effect competent repairs. Trains the staff in the use of Electronic Diagnostic Tooling as required to meet the needs of the workshop.
• Maintains a record of training provided to each staff member together with a list of competencies. The training record shall record the date of training, equipment trained upon and be updated every month. Copies of the training record are to be forwarded to the Company Contracts Analyst at the end of each financial quarter.
• Where necessary, test drives vehicles before and after the work has been carried out.
• Carries out Mandatory Safety Inspections and reporting as required by the Company Vehicle Maintenance Manager (CVMM).
• Provides customers with advice and guidance about vehicle repairs servicing and, when necessary to reduce costs, operation. He / she shall maintain a good working relationship with customers.
• In conjunction with the Service Advisor / Work Order Clerk, ensures that work orders reflect accurately the work required, any faults found and are updated to show any remedial work required. Advises Service Advisor / Work Order Clerk whether the customer should also be informed of any changes to the anticipated vehicle ‘output’ date.
• Ensures that replacement vehicle parts are identified correctly and in a timely manner, and entered in the vehicle maintenance work orders. Part consumption shall be monitored with new trends being identified and VMF Supervisory staff briefed.
• Prepares vehicle accident and damage estimates for repair for processing by the VMF Supervisor.
• Keeps abreast of technical developments, products, working methods and equipment in his / her area of specialisation and includes any relevant updates in training sessions for subordinate staff.
• Oversees the health, safety and environmental aspects of all procedures carried out in the workshop. He / she is to bring any dangerous or unorthodox procedures to a halt immediately. He / she is to report any dangerous occurrences to his / her supervisor immediately.
• Maintains an ‘accident book’ for the workshop and record all injuries requiring any medical attention.
• Ensures that the workshop is kept clean and tidy; equipment and tools are in good and serviceable condition, function correctly and, in conjunction with the Force Inventory Manager, ensures that ‘ready use’ consumables are stored neatly and stocked at the appropriate levels.
• As a member of VMF staff, is a vehicle recovery team leader and is on standby duty as determined by the CVMM or the DCSP.
• Will provide cover for other Foreman as required during holiday / sickness as required.

To be eligible for this role you will need to bring the following with you:

Qualifications and Experience:
• High school education
• Served recognised apprenticeship with a minimum of 10 yrs. post apprenticeship direct hands on relevant workshop experience
• Team leader / Leadership education advantageous.
• 5 years of technical workshop supervision experience at foreman level within a recognized industry sector.

Knowledge, Skill and Abilities:
• Knowledge of vehicle mechanical operations, especially in Heavy Vehicles and Plant.
• Proven organisational skills and administrative skills
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Strong attention to detail and ability to perform tasks carefully and accurately
• Up to date Knowledge of automotive repair industry practices
• Effective time management skills and ability to meet strict deadlines
• Ability to organise own workload and that of the team
• Able to work on own initiative and under pressure
• People management skills
• Technical awareness of a Heavy/Plant type Fleet operation is an advantage
• Awareness and understanding of health and safety requirements
• General Microsoft computer skills, additionally the position requires the ability to learn specific SAP modules to extract & update maintenance information.
• Must hold a valid Home Country HGV driver’s license and can obtain and maintain an appropriate company driving license. All driving requirements are for on and off-road driving conditions.
• Must be willing to participate in Heavy Equipment training courses provided by the company, essential
• Knowledge of Arabic and Spanish would also be useful.

This role would probably suit a SNCO who has been responsible for running an LAD type operation either in the military or since leaving the services, working with a mixture of both Plant and HGV’s.
