My client, who is a dominant technology provider of RF/microwave, microelectronics, and security technologies for such market places such as defence, aerospace and communications sectors are now seeking an additional Digital Electronics Design Engineer to join their established team.

You will be reporting to the Engineering Manager and your role will be to support R&D Engineering in developing best in class, complex high speed digital PCB assemblies for high reliability applications. Utilising the latest FPGAs, Microprocessors and high-speed interconnects.

Therefore, your main responsibilities will include:

• Responsible for the creation of FPGA designs using VHDL and working within a structured FPGA design framework.
• Design digital state machine architectures and logic circuits.
• Assist manufacturing to resolve technical problems as required.
• To provide assistance to other departments in order to meet overall Company objectives
• Schematic Capture using Zuken CadStar.
• Analogue design skills using DSP, FPGA, PLO, DAC/ADC SDRAM & SPI devices.
• Performing design analysis, i.e. parts stress and worst case.
• Work in a multi-functional department supporting RF, Mechanical and Production Engineers.
• Analyse, decompose and identify work breakdown for complex technical interface requirements.
• Support software development Engineers to ensure system operation meets specification.
• Support Project Management in customer meetings and design reviews.
• To develop and maintain strong working relationships with other team members within Manufacturing, Engineering and Quality functions.
• Supervise and guide Technicians engaged in evaluation of hardware and subsystems.
• To understand and work to clearly defined goals with respect to quality, output, timescale and program costs.
• Generate and review product and project design documentation.
• Support Business development in generating customer quotes and proposals.
• To ensure that all Environmental Health and Safety / Company Policies are adhered to at all times.
• Attend departmental meetings as required.
• To provide assistance to other departments in order to meet overall Company objectives

To be considered for this role you will need the following skills, knowledge and experience:
• Minimum Degree in Electrical & Electronics Engineering, ideally specialising in FPGA/Digital Techniques.
• 5 years or more design experience
• Knowledge of RF Design techniques an advantage.
• Worked with Development Engineering and Manufacturing groups to transition product into production
• Previous experience within UK Aerospace and Defence contractors an advantage
• Will be eligible to obtain UK Secret Security Clearance / UK Security Clearance in order to undertake related work in accordance with business needs.

And your key competencies will include:
• Experience of the complete hardware design cycle, from requirements capture, through schematic design and constraints capture
• Knowledge of RTL in VHDL using Altera or Xilinx IDE environments.
• Experienced in high speed digital and mixed signal circuit design.
• Generation of test Benches in VHDL for validation and verification of VHDL designs using ModelSim IDE.
• Familiarity with boundary scan utilities to support JTAG testing and debug.
• Familiarity of the main DSP families & development of embedded code in C++
• Experienced in bring-up and debug of high density digital hardware including BGA and multilayer PCB.
• Working knowledge of serial interfaces such as RS485, RS422, MLVDS, etc…
• Knowledge of RADAR subsystems and beamforming an advantage.
• Commissioning of prototype designs at board and unit level.
