My client, who is a dominant technology provider of RF/microwave, microelectronics, and security technologies for such market places such as defence, aerospace and communications sectors are now seeking an Engineering Manager to join their established team.

You will be reporting to either Senior VP or MD and your role will be to provide leadership and direction to the engineering development team in the Milton Keynes facility

Therefore, your responsibly will be to deliver the agreed engineering milestones established in the current Annual Operating Plan and considering the 3 Year Strategy Plan road map.

To meet prescribed customer deadlines.

• Develop and deploy the company’s engineering resources to achieve the Annual Operating Plan and related business objectives
• To embrace and champion a culture of Continuous Improvement
• Provide safe working environment for all employees and visitors and ensure legislative compliance in terms of health, safety, environment and other associated legislation and regulations
• To positively promote company to all parties; including: customers, suppliers, employees, management and investors, local communities and other stakeholders.

Your detailed attributes will include:

Business Performance
• Manage both internal and customer funded Research & Development programmes, within the budgets set, using programme planning, regular reviews of total cost and time to completion, risk identification and mitigation, identification of capital equipment and the forecasting of projected programme spend.
• Ensure adherence to established design and manufacturing procedures and process. As necessary develop and introduce new processes and or modify those that exist to ensure primary business objectives are achieved.
• Develop and maintain design methodologies that ensure the “seamless” transition of new products from design to “ready for manufacture”. Working with the production engineering group and operations team to deliver the common goal.
• Manage the day to day running of the Engineering department to meet its obligations and set clear objectives for each of the team through regular personal development reviews.
• With an intimate knowledge of critical RF, power/control and DSP challenges lead by example in route cause analysis corrective actions and establishing counter measures as required.
• Enhance the technical knowledge and expertise of the business through partnership working with third party industry experts and universities and by engagement with technical seminars and other forums of learning.
• Drive technology and new product development through well-defined and managed IR&D programs linked to new business opportunities that will stimulate growth.
• Ensure compliance with contracted requirements through early involvement in the Request for Quotation (RFQ) process, programme reviews and regular customer contact.
• Work with the Business Development and Field Sales teams to identify and win new opportunities.
• To work seamlessly with other group companies to leverage staff and other assets.

Reporting
• Work closely with the Finance Function to ensure integrity of financial reporting for all Engineering Projects.
• Work with the Senior Management Team at large to provide all necessary inputs for monthly reports, qtly reviews/forecasts, annual plan preparation and 3-year strategy plan construction.
• Drive continuous improvement through the use of departmental metrics and Key Performance Indicators.

Governance
• To ensure internal processes and controls are in line with best practise and company assets are protected.
• To keep abreast of legislative changes that may impact the business.
• To undertake regular reviews of business activities and performance and ensure that there is clear ownership and timelines on addressing issues and delivering plans, and to ensure that they are met.
• To ensure compliance with legislation and conform to best practise in meeting the requirements of the customer.
• To understand and ensure compliance with all Health and Safety and Environmental legislation and to ensure compliance with employment legislation

Staff
• To ensure that all functions are fit for purpose and meet current and future operational needs
• To review the performance of individuals in the team and identify areas for improvement and development using own influence and coaching skills. Ensure the development of succession plans for key posts in the business, develop & nurture individuals to advance within the organisation.
• To develop staff through suitable training and by giving them opportunities to gain experiences within the work environment.
• Ensure that each quarter staff are given the opportunity to discuss performance and development
• To ensure staff are kept fully aware of the financial and operational performance of the business

Leadership & Behavioural
• Be results driven with attention to detail
• Provide inspirational leadership to the business and be a role model to staff, must be able to make a positive impact within the work environment
• To contribute to strategic and operational discussions and help develop future plans.
• Must be able to communicate effectively with all levels of the organisation, both verbally and in writing

To be eligible for this role you will need the following competencies
• Holding an Engineering degree with specific RF and Power expertise
• Have a minimum of 5 years of relevant applied experience. To be in an RF role managing an engineering team
• Programme management skills
• System engineering experience with knowledge of Digital Signal processing
• Computer literate, with MS Office skills
• Senior level experience with commercial knowledge of dealing with Customers and Suppliers
• Ability to dissect complex information and be able to iterate to non-subject matter experts in a clear and concise manner
• Be able to present both internally and externally with gravitas and credibility
• Have a sound knowledge of the wider economic surroundings both for the UK and internationally

Other Requirements
• Continuous Improvement, you will have responsibility to make suggestions on Continuous Improvement within the business; expectations are around 4 a year. This responsibility forms part all employees’ job description.

• To be flexible in working hours in order to meet operational commitments
• UK security clearance, or capable of obtaining one.

Travel
• The role is based in the Milton Keynes facility; occasional travel may be required to customers, suppliers and other company sites and potentially overseas

In return they are offering an excellent starting salary and a benefits package which includes 24 days + 8 days bank holiday, 38hrs per week and a pension scheme which includes up to 6% company contribution.
