My client, who are an independent provider of satcomms and IT Support with a truly world-wide foot print are now seeking a IT Operations Manager to join their dynamic and expanding team.

You will be reporting to the Enterprise Engineering Manager, you will be managing a team of IT engineers and technicians both in the UK and abroad as well as supervise contractors where appropriate.

The main purpose of your role will be as follows:
• Manage the effective delivery of internal IT services (telco, network, security, servers, desktop, business apps) and hosted Government IT services for both HQ and remote offices/users 24/7.
• Design, plan, implement and support customer (internal and external) IT networks and systems globally to agreed timescales and costs.
• Lead, motivate and develop a team who install, develop, maintain and support IT systems both internally and externally with an absolute focus on providing high levels of availability, customer service and satisfaction.
• To undertake the tasks according to the role, as detailed in the Company Security Organization document.

Therefore, your key tasks will include:

Leading and supporting your team by example:
• Take full accountability of the end-to-end delivery of 24/7 IT services to meet the agreed business requirements within timescale, cost and quality criteria working with the relevant internal resources and third parties to achieve the desired results.
• Design, Develop, and implement new internal and external IT solutions as well as support colleagues, customers and suppliers to ensure 100 percent satisfaction.
• Manage, develop, implement, document, train and support existing and future IT Services (telco, network, security, servers, desktop, business apps, etc)
• Be passionate about IT and keen on keeping up to date with cutting edge industry technologies.
• Define service levels/KPI's and metrics where they currently do not exist, and work closely with management to ensure that our technology meets service levels/KPI's.
• Conduct regular performance monitoring and capacity testing of IT services.
• Be part of the 24/7 on call IT rota responding to emergencies as required including remote access or site visits for company corporate network and users as well as nominated customer networks.

Assist in Company Strategy, maintain strict cost controls and ensure accurate budget forecasting by:
• Assisting in the planning, implementing and managing of a business aligned operating budget and ensure all services lines are within budget.
• Develop a disaster recovery strategy that is cost-effective and provides varying optional degrees of recoverability for the IT systems as agreed with management.
• Develop an information management strategy that is cost-effective and provides effective information management to the varying needs of different departments.
• Work with appropriate stakeholders and managers to define, implement and operate new operational IT standards.

Lead on specified Customer IT Projects including:
• Participate in IT project/engineering tasks in partnership with the internal Government and Enterprise Engineering teams including customer requirements capture, design and implementation.
• Ongoing IT support and administration for specified customer networks and systems thereafter.

Have overall Operations Management responsibility for your team to:
• Adhere to, develop, implement and support desktop/server/network security in compliance with CyberEssentials+ and ISO 27001.
• Ensure routine daily/weekly/monthly operational activities and monitoring of Infrastructure and Applications are carried out to ensure a seamless service.
• Ensure core business applications are running at an optimal state.
• Manage the daily monitoring and control of the IT services and provide technical services and support.
• Ensure version, risk & security controls are maintained.
• Ensure software licensing compliance throughout the network.

Team Management:
• Lead, motivate and develop a team who install, develop, maintain, support and improve the IT systems, to ensure uptime meets the companies need for 24/7 availability.
• Promote team spirit; maintain a strong morale and commitment to core values including confidentiality. Mentoring individuals at both a technical and personal level as appropriate.
• Foster and encourage passion about IT within the team so it emanates through the company.
• Responsible for ensuring the team are well connected with the customer base and meet or exceed the agreed KPI targets.

To be eligible for this role you will need the following experience, skills and qualifications

• HND / Degree or equivalent in Computer Science or related discipline OR at least 10 years applicable experience.
• Specialist hands on experience of building and supporting network infrastructure including virtualisation, remote access systems, database systems, CRM, network security, email and web security, IP PBX (Mitel) and IT procurement would be a strong advantage.
• Must have good analytical skills, exp of successfully supporting a fast paced 100+ user environment across multiple sites, managing an 1st / 2nd line IT service desk, managing customer account managers & customer relationships in regard to service delivery.
• Conversant with Cybersecurity and enforcement of drive encryption for IT systems
• Experience of MoD IT system security policies and/or ISO 27001 processes – advantageous
• Familiar with cyber software tools to build servers/laptops securely and locally validate prior to external testing
• Presentation and customer design experience essential.
• Proven experience of working in a demanding environment and be able to demonstrate a history of successful delivery of projects and services.
• Proven vendor management experience.
• Hard working individual with the ability to multi-task, work on your own initiative, prioritise work load, and able to solve problems efficiently
• Hands-on & hands-off technical ability
• Ability to exploit IT for business benefit.
• Ability to take ownership of incidents, changes & projects
• Strong skills in procedure development and implementation.
• Discretion and reliability.
• Ability to communicate confidently and effectively with people at all levels is essential
• Strong leadership skills to manage team
• Totally service orientated, ITIL Service Management would be a plus
• Must be able to be able to achieve Direct Vetted Status (DV).
• Ability to understand minimal high-level requirements of IT systems and implement a detailed solution
• Someone that leads by example and is hands on and able to lead peers in the build of IT systems effectively and timely to tight customer (internal and external) demands

The ideal candidate would be someone from an IS background, who is conversant with Cyber security and enforcement of drive encryption for IT systems, as well as MoD IT security policies and/or 27001 and have the ability to understand minimal high-level requirements of IT systems and able to implement a detailed solution. You will also need to have a full UK drivers licence.

Typically, the ideal candidate would probably come from a Signals IS background and probably be a Foreman of Signals IS
