This is an exciting opportunity to play a pivotal role in the development of our Client’s Integrated Sonar Systems (ISS) product range. The Company is a world leader in Surface Ship Sonar Systems, with systems in-service with the Royal Navy and several navies worldwide. As Principal Electronics Engineer in our multidisciplinary team based at Weymouth you will be primarily responsible for designing solutions for the electronic content of our naval sonar product line; supporting transition to manufacturing and provide ad-hoc electronic support for systems already in-service. This is an exceptional opportunity to bring your expertise to the existing team and develop into a team lead role in the longer term.

Key Responsibilities
• To interpret system needs and requirements and decompose and flow them down into hardware requirements;
• Conduct Electronics Engineering design activities and reviews, covering full system, sub-system and individual board design;
• Ensure that the technical solution meets the customer, legislative and business requirements;
• Responsible for the technical oversight of the engineering activities throughout the project lifecycle;
• Responsible for providing planning and estimation input into Project Managers at the kick-off of new projects for their own work and that of more junior Engineers;
• Act as Project Engineering Lead (PEL), or System Design Authority (SDA) on one or more projects;
• To identify and resolve qualification, certification and safety issues;
• Review and approve project technical documentation, including: Management Plans, Requirements Specifications, Design Documents, Interface Specifications and Acceptance Tests, Approval of design change requests and concessions;
• To support risk identification and mitigation activities;
• Coaching and mentoring of more junior Engineers;
• Liaising with customers and suppliers as appropriate;
• Overseeing initial test and integration including formal testing;

Personal Attributes
• Self-motivated, adaptable to change, proactive, diligent and with excellent demonstrable leadership and inter-personal skills;
• Batchelor’s degree or equivalent in Electronics or a relevant subject, additionally Chartered status or Professional Registration is desirable;
• Interest in line management aspects;
• Experience of the whole Systems lifecycle within a defence environment and of airborne system qualification;
• Knowledge of Engineering best practices, methodologies, processes and tools;
• Knowledge of the EMC standards and design principles;
• Design experience within an appropriate branch of electronics (e.g. power/high speed digital/analogue/RF);
• Familiarity with one or more PMRP and ECAD tools;
• Eligible for SC clearance as a minimum;
• Travel to other Company sites and customer sites within the country and abroad may occasionally be required;
