My client, a dynamic and expanding communications company are now seeking to recruit an Engineering Manager to take control of all of the Comms Engineering function of the Company.

You will be reporting to the Sales director and your role will be to take over day to day management of all the engineering function of the company, which consists of a team of about 20 personnel with 5 senior project engineers.

This is a HQ based role, and will not involve in meeting clients but on managing the team of engineers making sure that they have the right equipment, tools, spaces etc for the role needed, as well as making sure that the Sales and the Senior Project Engineers have assessed the tasking currently.

In essence, this role is a command and control type role where the engineering team is being used in the most economical method and at the same time the team is being kept up to date with current trends and if required new training and development.

Therefor your main responsibilities will include:
• Daily planning of all field tasks, including all documentation and HSE
• Management of emergency call out roster as well as normal roster, and prioritization of all work, including emergency work to meet current SLA’s and KPI’s.
• Supporting the sales team with technical and project planning daily, as well as supporting them with tender submissions with regards to technical aspects.
• Full HR responsibility for the engineering team
• Continual planning and organisation of all the engineers especially for those with overseas travel.
• Weekly reporting and analysis of time sheets for the company’s engineers
• Working along with the operations department in regard to planning and delivery of tasks.
• Continual development and training of the engineers, mitigating skills shortfalls within the team.
• Updating company engineering SOP’s.
• Attending weekly management meetings and engineering meetings and carrying out instructions and requests that arise.
• Acting as company champion on engineering standards across the whole spectrum.
• Making sure that all documentation is currently filled out by both the sales and engineering teams and making sure that they are operating to their ISO and HSE regulations at all times.

To be eligible for this role you will need the following qualifications, knowledge and skills:
• Good standard of education, preferably HNC or equivalent with Electrical / RF engineering knowledge
• Excellent IP networking experience.
• Project management qualifications and experience
• RF installation experience including advance RF system experience
• Good IT skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.
• Engineering management and project management experience
• PMR / DMR products
• Experience in fault finding across a multitude of telecommunication platforms.
• Keen eye for attention to detail.
• Ability to work on own initiative and as part of a successful team.
• Good planning and organisational skills and the ability to meet deadlines
• Ability to manage and implement change.
• Creative and willing to contribute ideas and professional opinion.

The ideal can candidate would be someone who has a good knowledge of radio systems and communications, but it is not essential you are an ex engineer, but someone who has a very good understanding of the engineering function and who can run a team. Therefore you could be an ex YoS or FoS or similar, who has made the move into as pure management role, or a DE officer. However, this is not a role for someone who has just left the service but have got some commercial experience under their belt since leaving the service. You will also need to live within a suitable commutable distance from their office.
