PURPOSE

To deliver the Department’s response to Organised Retail Crime at a national and local level.
To deliver a value for money service at local and national level in respect of disrupting criminal activity within Group stores.
To ensure all core department values are upheld by all personnel within the team.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• To take ownership of complex external investigations at the request of the Head of Retail Profit Protection.

• To ensure complex internal and external investigations are conducted proficiently, timely, and use their knowledge and experience to decide which investigative actions are the most appropriate in the circumstances.
• Lead, manage, and develop the Proactive Crime Teams. Increasing effectiveness, driving achievement of departmental objectives and monitoring and evaluating team capability and confidence.
• To develop and grow the Department’s response to Organised Retail Crime, ensuring all field personnel are aware of emerging trends and to ensure Department Leaders are made aware of emerging relevant technology and tools which would be of benefit to their response to Organised Retail Crime.
• To ensure the teams are resilient in dealing with Organised Crime and promote the highest levels of professional conduct.
• Manage budgets and resources and take corrective action where required to ensure investigations are completed in a cost-effective manner.
• Ensure the welfare of all staff and ensure they are operating within the Group’s Health and Safety guidelines.
• Coordinate the team when responding to emergencies and incidents.
• To ensure the team have a good understanding of relevant legislation and criminal procedures.
• Develop plans for operations and coordinate activities and initiatives, including management of team assets, which contribute to reducing, detecting and preventing organised retail crime.
• To manage, develop and Crime Desk function of the SOC and ensure any intelligence is relevant and disseminated promptly; in line with company policy.
• Ensure the Proactive Crime Team undertake comprehensive risk assessments for planned operations to ensure adequate safety procedures are in place.
• Conduct intelligence-led briefing, tasking and debriefing.
• Ensure that PCT Leaders are aware of their responsibilities for the health, welfare and development of the officers within their teams.
• To ensure effective and appropriate inter departmental information sharing procedures are in place within the Group with regards to organised crime issues.
• To ensure that Company Banning Notices and Civil Recovery Forms are served in accordance with department policy.
• To ensure the team KPIs are delivered which include the team’s overall cost being offset by the amount of recoveries.
• To ensure company issued body cameras are used correctly and the footage recorded is managed in line with GDPR and stored securely on the Cloud database. This database must be maintained and evidential footage tagged and filed.
• To ensure the teams maintain an up to date knowledge of relative Criminal Law and HR guidelines and procedures to ensure accuracy and efficiency in role.
• To maintain a working knowledge of Organised Crime Groups and Offenders who operate in Group stores. To support in the maintenance and growth of the Offender Database in ISACS.
• To ensure colleagues are kept up to date on target offenders and share information and intelligence.
• To work alongside the North and South Group Retail Profit Protection Managers and support them with their aim of reducing shrink due to external theft.
• To liaise with outside Investigation Agencies including the Police and the NBCS on a regular basis.
• To ensure Crime Partnerships, BIDs and shared security services are utilised and deliver value for money.
• Ensure all SOC Policies are relevant and enforced.
• Monitor security equipment across the estate and ensure faults are reported and repairs are expedited.
• Investigate SOC related incidents to ensure process is followed and any learnings are identified and utilised.
• Manage the SOC team, ensuring monitoring and development of all members - including liasion with HR (where appropriate) and any administration is complete and up to date.
• Conduct regular 1:1 with all team members.
• Produce SOC reporting for presentation at all levels.
• Perform audits on access control to ensure data is being weeded.
• Ensure all requests for CCTV are compliant and released within a suitable timeframe.
• Conduct checks on all operators and ensure KPI criteria is met and action plans/guidance provided where necessary.
• Constantly look at procedures to recommend and implement changes where necessary.
• Manage the team to ensure they are effective and ensure new members receive the necessary and relevant training.
• Manage the e-learning package to ensure it is updated where necessary.
• To complete any adhoc tasks as requested by the Head of Retail Profit Protection within the guidelines of your current levels of responsibility.
