Our Client, a major oil production company established in 1962 with operations in the North Sea and elsewhere across the globe is looking to appoint an experienced Technical Safety Engineer to provide specialist advice and support to Production Operations, Drilling and Projects on the technical safety engineering aspects of fire and explosion hazard management and process safety, and thereby ensuring we satisfy good practice standards.

Key Responsibilities and Tasks
• Development and maintenance of Safety Cases in line with legislative requirements including Thorough Reviews.
• Provision of technical safety support and advice to operational (production and drilling) and project personnel to ensure good practice standards employed consistent with existing standard of care.
• Support to Technical Authority for Company technical safety standards.
• Co-ordination of activities undertaken by external safety consultants, and review of deliverables.
• Co-ordination of and participation in technical safety risk assessment activities (HAZID, HAZOP, TRA etc.) for project work.
• Maintenance of a register of current relevant safety legislation and other standards and be able to advise the Company of its legal requirements in terms of health and safety issues.
• Liaise with regulatory authorities and other relevant external bodies, eg step Change, when requested by Manager Health and Safety.
• Carry out Technical Safety Engineering Studies in-house including (Concept ALARP Reviews, Risk Impact Studies, dropped object studies, specialist studies).
• Be Focal Point for update and maintenance of Risk Assessment Manual.
• Monitoring HSE website for latest research and guidance ensuring adoption by the Company.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Experience
• Detailed knowledge and application of UK safety case legislation and relevant statutory provisions
• Principles and use of quantified risk assessment to support safety case
• Extensive knowledge of fire and explosion major hazard management
• Verification schemes
• Capable of producing technical safety engineering reports detailed above
• Capable of presenting and/or defending HSSEQ position in Production/Project environment
