Coating Development Engineer (420jc) vacancy in North Wales ()

My client is one of the world-leading international organisations in the field of optics with locations throughout Europe, Asia and the USA. Due to company expansion they are now looking for additional personnel to build on the team.

You will be reporting to the Industrial Process Manager and you will be responsible for designing and developing new thin-film coating process for a wide range of products. The role required the ability to assess customer and in-house specifications against current designs, and where need, design thin-film coating to achieve specifications.

Therefore your key responsibilities will include:
• Producing process documentation for use by process operators
• Completion of qualification testing in line with various MIL/DIN/ISO specifications, to include writing qualification documentation
• Daily problem solving on coating production issues
• Assessing alternative coating techniques and related technologies
• Assessing new deposition techniques and technologies
• Developing new substrate preparation and deposition processes/techniques
• Operating a PVD coating chamber and ideally be able to complete thin film designs and tolerance analysis.

Personal Specification
• Educated to degree level or above, preferably in Physics/Chemistry based subjects or materials
• The ability to work with and support coating production operators as needed
• Confidently liaise with customers on product specifications/performance
• Strong Physics/materials background is essential in order to analyse experimental results
• Excellent attention to details

It would also be useful if you had the following skills and experience:-
• An appreciation of the latest thin-film coating and design technologies and strategies
• Familiarity with a range of thin film design software packages and a range of analysis techniques, e.g. XPS, TOF-SIMS
• Knowledge of APS and ion assist deposition technologies
• Familiarity with optical monitoring techniques
• Knowledge of Vacuum/Pumping systems

Because of the nature of the work undertaken at my clients' site, this post is required to meet special nationality rules and therefore are only open to British Citizens. All selected candidates will be required to undergo security clearance.
