My client is one of the world-leading international organisations in the field of optics with locations throughout Europe, Asia and the USA. Due to company expansion they are now looking for additional personnel to build on the team.

The Development Engineer is one of the core disciplines that determine the Client’s ability to develop and deliver new (and existing) products in a cost effective and timely manner.
The primary role of Development Engineering is to identify and mitigate the technical risk in development projects.
This is a proactive role that takes the lead in developing awareness of technology trends, opportunities and implementation where appropriate.

Key responsibilities:
The main duties with this position include:
• Risk reduction – allows proper identification and mitigation of programme based risks through design studies and experimental work
• Fundamental support to technology development – convert the concept into reality through controlled and structured development tasks.
• Leading and supporting process definition and improvement and ensuring tie-in between design and manufacturing
• Creating positive working relationships with Design and Manufacturing Engineers to ensure the transfer of development projects into production.
• Liaising with customer and supplier contacts on a technical level to achieve programme specifications.

Personal Specification:
It is essential that all applicants have the following:
• An education to at least first degree level, preferably in Physics / Mechanical or Optical Engineering
• A technical background with strong analytical skills and practical ability.
• Strong attention to detail and good inter-personal skills
• A strong set of PC Skills – more than Microsoft Office, the ability to use a PC as an Engineering Tool
• The ability to work with and support business group and other engineering functions.
• Confidently liaise with customers and suppliers on product specifications / performance matters
• Ability to communicate and feedback with all departments.
It is anticipated that the successful candidate will undertake a training programme involving secondment to other departments within the Company, both technical and non-technical.

Because of the nature of the work undertaken at my clients' site, this post is required to meet special nationality rules and therefore are only open to British Citizens. All selected candidates will be required to undergo security clearance.
The MoD rules state that in order to have access to this level of information, candidates "must be British as defined in the British Nationality Act 1981"
