The main purpose of the role is to lead in the generation and review of technical documentation, ensuring that the departmental technical documentation is standardised. To generate complex documentation to a professional standard to support production

Key accountabilities
• To Support the Principal Manufacturing Engineer (PME) and their Manufacturing Engineers (MEs) within the area

Responsibilities
• To set the standard expected from Technical Authors and to lead in the standardisation of process documentation throughout the department
• To support the development of standards and working practices as required
• To recruit as necessary Technical Authors on both a permanent and contract basis
• To coach and mentor Technical Authors and Manufacturing Engineers in documentation generation and the standards adopted
• To act as Resource Manager to Technical Authors departmentally
• To obtain technical information and detailed knowledge from subject matter experts within the company.
• To deliver core technical process documentation for authorisation by an Authorised Manufacturing Engineer (AME) in line with corporate standards and agreed project schedules
• To accurately capture processes through the generation of manufacturing documentation
• To aid in the standardisation of Process History Folders throughout the department
• To aid in the standardisation of tooling configuration status reporting
• To conduct peer reviews of technical documentation generated by the ME(s) and Technical Authors
• To gain stakeholder approval of key documentation generated
• To assertively drive the promotion of the Manufacturing Design Authority (MDA) procedures, ensuring that appropriate standards are maintained at all times

Qualifications
• A minimum of a HNC or equivalent in an Engineering discipline
• A Minimum grade C or above in English GCSE or O level equivalent

Knowledge
• A good knowledge of engineering principles
• A good knowledge of generating Process documentation
• The ability to understand technical drawings and specifications

Experience
• Extensive experience in the generation of Technical documentation is essential
• A basic knowledge of MRP/ERP systems is desirable
• A strong knowledge of a range of manufacturing processes (i.e. Machining, Presswork, Moulding, etc) is desirable
• A basic knowledge in the design of components is desirable
• A basic knowledge of tool design and manufacture is desirable
• A good understanding of Bills of Materials and Route Cards is desirable

Skills
• Strong literacy and grammar, a good command of the English language is essential
• Strong computer literacy (MS Office - Word, Excel, Powerpoint, MS Project, Outlook, etc)
• Excellent attention to detail
• Excellent communication skills both written and verbal are essential
• Ability to quickly develop strong working relationships with project teams in order to elicit information
• Good presentation skills
• The ability to operate under pressure
• Must have a methodical approach to tasks with the ability to prioritise a variable workload with conflicting demands on time
• Assertive and able to defend decisions

• Willingness to work in Controlled areas

All selected candidates will be required to undergo security clearance.
