Purpose
Our Client, a major oil production company established in 1962 with operations in the North Sea and elsewhere across the globe is seeking a Marine Engineer / Naval Architect to be responsible for the provision of marine standards, systems and procedures needed for the design, maintenance and operation of the facilities for the operational directorate.

Furthermore the Marine Engineer / Naval Architect provides discipline specific solutions and resolution of problems in the operations directorate to maximize production whilst ensuring that safe and reliable operation of the facilities is in accordance with legislative requirements, and other relevant standards and Company Values.

Key Responsibilities and Tasks
Summary of Role
• The primary purpose of the Marine Engineer / Naval Architect is to safeguard the technical integrity of Company facilities by defining the Frame Work to act safely within
• The Marine Engineer / Naval Architect is a senior specialist role within the company and will be a recognised subject matter expert within this discipline
• The Marine Engineer / Naval Architect will provide direct and impartial feedback on the integrity status of Company facilities and where concerns exist ensure these are effectively communicated to Senior Management
• The Marine Engineer / Naval Architect performs a key role in ensuring that the risks associated with Major Accident Hazards are fully understood and are being effectively managed
• The Marine Engineer / Naval Architect will support and share the companies drive for technical excellence. They will also provide technical direction and approve the introduction of appropriate new technology and procedural changes that will benefit the overall Installation safety performance and sustainability

Responsibilities of the Marine Engineer / Naval Architect are:
• Champion a working culture based on respect for health, safety and environmental issues and maintenance of a high level of asset integrity
• Responsible person for systems and technology within marine engineering discipline
• Ensure an appropriate suite of technical standards and procedures within marine engineering discipline are in-place and are kept up to-date with the latest best practice / industry standards
• Ensure technical conformity and compliance with legislation, EU directives and company engineering standards. This responsibility shall include providing interpretation and guidance on these documents to the benefit of the Company assets
• Conduct regular thorough reviews of the discipline technical standards and procedures to ensure they remain fit for purpose
• Approve or reject requests for deviations from their discipline technical standards and procedures and ensure these are assessed for risk, documented for action and recorded on a deviations register
• Ownership of Performance Standards of Safety Critical Elements (SCEs) in support of the Company Verification Scheme, proactively monitor SCEs for compliance and for addressing any SCE performance issues with the Installation Teams
• Review failures associated with systems, equipment / SCEs within discipline and lead or participate in associated investigations / Root Cause Analysis
• Provide marine engineering specific input to HSSEQ accident and incident investigations
• Work with relevant interfaces to ensure that discipline input to the Integrated Activity Plan (IAP) is identified in a timely manner and that any adverse consequences of changes are mitigated and reflected in an updated IAP
• Provide marine engineering specific input to facility risk registers, maintenance standards, critical spares, procedures and scopes of work
• Carry out review and audit activities as required
• Ensure findings from audits and reviews are addressed in an appropriate manner and participate in incident investigations as requested
• Represent the Company on various external industry bodies with the purpose of keeping abreast of best industry practice, technical issues, new and revised legislation and guidance
• To give guidance, advice and direction to asset facilities, operational onshore and offshore teams as well as the Section Head for Subsea and Structures
• Carry out regular installation site visits to liaise with offshore personnel
• Develop and maintain positive and constructive relationships with key stakeholders e.g. OIMs, Installation Teams, Section Heads, Project Managers etc. and hold regular feedback meetings with these stakeholders

Required Knowledge, Skills & Experience
• Relevant Engineering Degree within Discipline and preferable Chartered Engineer
• Previous experience in a similar role within the Oil & Gas industry
• Proven track record of identifying and developing sound and innovative technical solutions
• Knowledge of associated technical/engineering disciplines
• Familiar with UK industry regulations relating to the oil and gas industry
• Effective relationship-builder at all levels, internally and externally
• Effective communicator both written and verbal
