Senior Software Engineer (220ne) vacancy in Essex ()

Our Client is looking to recruit a Senior Software Engineer to join one of the leading providers of Street Lighting Remote Control and Monitoring systems. Their system utilises an in-house radio communication system to link street lights back to a central application allowing them to be managed in a sophisticated and energy efficient way.

The primary focus of this role will be on the development of a replacement for one of our existing products. This will be as part of a small team, and will be mostly C development for a small 32-bit ARM microcontroller. Some knowledge and experience of working on similar platforms would be extremely useful, though not essential.

In addition to this the successful candidate will also be part of the team responsible for maintaining and improving the system software, including aspects related to the custom radio protocol. This will require a good working knowledge of C/C++, Python and the Linux Operating System. Specific knowledge of RF systems is not required, but some basic understanding will be beneficial.

You are likely to have all, or at least many, of the following skills and experience:
• A good engineering degree
• Typically 5+ years working experience
• An excellent working knowledge of C/C++
• Some experience of Python (or similar) development
• A good working knowledge of the Linux Operating System
• Excellent problem solving skills
• Embedded software development

Additional technical experience in any of the following areas will be considered an advantage:
• ARM assembler development
• Database and web application development
• Open source development
• RF systems and protocols

You will:
• Be an enthusiastic team player, but be able to work independently
• Be prepared to learn new skills as necessary
• Have good organisational skills
