Technical Author (064jc) vacancy in Saudi Arabia ()

My client, who is a major telecoms provider to the military, is now seeking a Technical Author for their operations in Saudi Arabia; you will be reporting to the Chief Systems Engineer

Main Objectives and Functions:

• Responsible for the production of coherent systems level documentation from individual technical descriptions as provided by OEM, Sub-Contractors or internal staff.
• To provide high quality documentation that meets applicable standards and is appropriate for its internal audience.
• Creation and update to site handbooks, user and maintainer guides, installation guides, help routines and high level system design descriptions.
• Review published materials, support and proposal related, to recommend revisions or changes in scope, format, content and methods of reproduction, delivery etc.

Summary of Duties and Responsibilities:

• To work closely with internal teams to obtain an in-depth understanding of the product and the documentation requirements.
• Organise information according to the user’s need.
• Work closely with subject matter experts to provide engineering material across the product lifecycle, inc. proposal, implementation and in-service support.
• As required, validate deliverables for accuracy, readability and usability.
• Identify and communicate any potential areas for improvement associated to process or ways of working.
• As required, work with the training teams to create tutorials to help end-users use a variety of applications and equipment.

Contact with Others (Internal/External/Meetings):
The post-holder will be expected to manage, on a daily basis, effective Engineering relationships with a wide stakeholder group including:

• Programme Managers
• System Design Authority
• System design engineers
• Installation engineers
• ILS engineers
• Test and commissioning engineers
• OM&T as required
• UK MOD as required (SANGCOM – Customer 1)
• MofNG as required (Customer 2)

PROJECT REPORTS:
Progress reports on agreed timescales and deliverables assigned to this post.

PROBLEM SOLVING RESPONSIBILITY:

Will be required to address or escalate technical issues as required to ensure compliance with project requirements and adherence to project targets and schedules.

RECRUITMENT SPECIFICATION (Knowledge & Experience):
ESSENTIAL
• 5+ years of technical writing experience.
• Evidence of experience in the field of technical authorship.
• Exceptional English written/verbal communication, listening, interpersonal, research, investigative and problem solving skills.
• Self starter, able to work with a minimum of supervision.
• Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
• Ability to communicate concisely at a senior level within the organisation.
• Must have a flexible approach and work ethic.
• Experience and ability to adapt communication style for different individuals / situations.
• Drive and tenacity to achieve project timings.

DESIRABLE
• Experience working in KSA.
• Knowledge of IT service management methodologies.
• Membership of Institute of Scientific and Technical Communicators ISTC.

QUALIFICATIONS
• Degree based on technical writing or equivalent/relevant experience in the technical author field of work.

As this role is based in Saudi Arabia, candidates must meet all of the minimum qualifications as they are not bound by UK or EU Laws, also individuals over the age of 50 will also not be considered for any of these roles.
