My client a specialist Global Logistics company who have built a reputation 2nd to none in the movement of goods and equipment for MoD and Government are now seeking a Global Logistics Coordinator to join their team.

The Company is based at Silchester. This will be the permanent place of work although there may be occasions when it will be required to attend other locations in the course of the duties. This will on occasions involve overnight stays away from home.

You will be reporting to the Global Logistics Manager, and you will liaise with Sales Manager, Business Development Manager, Transport Operations co-ordinators, Warehouse Staff, Crew, Accounts, and Security Manager

Role Purpose:

My client provides multi-modal logistical and warehouse services for a range of commercial and government customers in the Government and Defence sector. The Companies operations provides UK, Europe and Global coverage and this role is within the Global Logistics’ freight forwarding division which was started 18 months ago and is experiencing rapid growth. To meet this increased demand the division now requires an experienced multi-modal freight forwarder to process and project manage all aspects of the Global Operation. This is a start to finish role.

Main Duties / Responsibilities:

Managing full life cycle of movement of goods from pick up to final delivery including, but not limited to:
• Receiving enquiries, discussing requirement, generating quotes on Boxtop
• Liaising with air, sea and road carriers regarding routes, schedules and rates
• Liaising with road transport operations regarding haulage provision for Global customers
• Booking cargo space with air, sea and road carriers
• Processing import, export and transit customs declarations including trade control licencing
• Preparing all shipping documentations to meet carriage requirements, legislation and AEO/ISO requirements using Boxtop software
• Preparing and collating any additional paperwork for each movement to ensure compliancy with international legal requirements
• Monitoring shipment departures and arrivals and update Boxtop and customers as required.
• Daily interface with customers, suppliers, third parties, subcontractors and crew regarding the details of the movements
• Keeping file administration up to date including processing invoicing using Boxtop
• Management of customers’ project moves where required.
• Supporting sales team in business development for Global Logistics team; assistance with bid/tender processes & quotes

Understanding customer needs
• Build a knowledge base of customers’ business, organisation and business objectives
• Attend team and client meetings and communicate effectively both internally and externally to identify needs and agree and evaluate business solutions
• Carry out necessary client visits.

General Duties
• Adhering to all companies health and safety policies/procedures and assisting in maintaining a safe and clean working environment
• Adhering to all companies security policies and procedures
• Adhering to all Companies quality (AEO & ISO) policies and procedures
• At all times actively support the business aims, objectives, policies and procedures
• At all times ensure adherence to Company Security and Quality standards and procedures
• Undertake any other duties as may be required by Senior Management commensurate with the responsibilities of the job or the requirements of the business
• General office admin; own filing, franking post, purchase orders etc.

Person Specification:
Experience Required:
• The successful applicant would need to have a broad understanding of global multi-modal transport routes, international trade, customs procedures and preferably shipping difficult products such as Class 1 DGR and Section 5. It is expected that this would require at least 5-10 years working in various freight forwarding roles covering both imports and exports, air, road and sea. A sea/road bias is preferred but the applicant must be able to quote, book and prepare air freight the company uses
• Boxtop, ASM, Journease and Microsoft Office software.

Other Requirements:
• Applicant will be security vetted and must be able to obtain Security Clearance (via the DBS-NSV) in addition to a full five year employment history for Aviation Security clearance.

Technical Knowledge/skills/experience/qualifications:
Essential:
• 5-10 years freight forwarding (multi-modal but with export sea freight bias).
• Good knowledge of shipping lines & routes and good network of contacts
• IMDG with hazardous cargo knowledge
• Worked with a broad range of commercial customers (Government and Defence industry knowledge an advantage)
• Export Air Freight knowledge
• Good working knowledge of Customs and transit procedures.
• Must have worked to ISO SOPs, AEO and Aviation Security (DfT Regulated Agent) requirements.

Desirable:
• Import Knowledge an advantage
• Aviation Security trained

Other:
• Team Player essential
• Courteous, polite and professional communicator both via telephone and face to face
• Diligent, with good attention to detail.
• Must be able to work in a highly regulated sector with strong emphasis on compliancy, security and discretion.
• Security vetting required – must be able to obtain and retain Security Clearance
• 5 year referenced employment history with no (unaccounted for) gaps in excess of 28 days, essential for Aviation Security requirements
• IT literate – able to used PC and web based software to produce documentation; ideally Boxtop, ASM, basic Microsoft Office package skills including Excel.
• Commercially aware with an eye for business opportunity and adding value

The ideal individual would be someone who lives within 10-15 miles from my client’s location who has left the forces and has gained some commercial experience in a similar role.

In return they are offering an excellent salary base of between £25-30k, with 20 days holiday plus normal statutory bank holidays with additional service day after 2 years’ service and then annually up to max of 25 days plus BHs. Hours: 9am to 6pm with an hour’s lunch unpaid however flexibility required.
