My client is looking to appoint a Vehicle Mechanic, who will be reporting to the Workshop Supervisor.

The key accountabilities of the job holder are as follows:

• The maintenance, mechanical/electrical repairs and modification of the wide range of military and commercial wheeled vehicles and towed equipment, in accordance with faults noted on inspection or reported by the user. All repairs are to be completed to current VOSA & MOD standards, while also ensuring the correct specialist tools are used to carry out repairs. All repair activities are to be carried out in compliance with all Health and Safety and company policy.
• Responsible for working safely within the workshop, with due regard to local safety instructions and the Health & Safety at Work Act.
• Keeping pace with changing priorities.
• Ensuring that the correct specialist tools are used in carrying out repairs.
• Maintaining up-to-date technical knowledge on current equipment and new equipment into service.
• Carrying out minor electrical repairs i.e. bulbs fuses, etc.

An individual toolkit, Personal Protective Equipment (Corporate Clothing) and specialist stores support will be provided.

Qualifications & Requirements
• Have a recognised apprenticeship in Automotive Engineering or Service as an Armed Forces Vehicle Mechanic Class 1, essential.
• Have a recognised apprenticeship in Motor Vehicle Mechanics and Technicians work, NVQ Level 3 or equivalent training and experience. City and Guild Level 1, 2 and 3 or NVQ Level 3 in Automotive Engineering, essential.
• Full clean driving license, essential, including B and C categories.
• Experience of repairing four wheel drive vehicles, including 6, 9 and 15 tonne.
• Attendance to Manufacturer automotive courses, desirable.
• Attendance to MOD approved equipment repair courses and/or Civilian Vehicle Inspectors course, desirable.

Skills
• Computer literate in Microsoft and JAMES packages, desirable.
• Articulate both verbal and written communication

Security

The successful candidate will need to satisfy Ministry of Defence security requirements.
