Description of role
• The role of the Technical Officer involves knowledge of and experience in legislative matters and standardization topics related to the compressed air field.
• The Technical Officer will provide guidance and support to the trade association membership on compressed air related issues which may result from compliance with legislation and conformity with standards.
• The Technical Officer will be expected to provide limited guidance to ember customers and potential customers on compressed air related issues.
• The Technical Officer will respond to technical inquiries received by whether through web, phone, mail or email.
• The Technical Officer shall have a working knowledge of and understanding in social media communication.
• The Technical Officer will assist in the preparation of publications and be responsible for the development of information sheets.
• The Technical officer will provide regular updates on developments in the legislative and standards field.
• The Technical Officer will assist in the development of training and education material provided by the Trade Association.
• The Technical Officer will develop technically oriented marketing and PR materials to promote the association and compressed air, while ensuring the accuracy of technical content created by others in the membership for the purposes of marketing materials such as press releases, articles, e-learning modules, training materials etc.
• The Technical Officer shall support the membership in representation to governmental and standards bodies.
Responsibilities
• Guidance and support: Using market experience and commercial know-how to support technical understanding to provide;
a) members with focused guidance and qualified information and interpretation on UK and EU legislative issues as well as assistance in the use of UK, EU and International Standards
b) member customers and potential customers with sufficient information to allow for an understanding of the topics raised for a successful completion of member/customer contract. In addition provide sufficient support to potential customers that results in a good understanding of the issues raised.
• Monitors and reports: using knowledge of legislation and standards associated with the compressed air industry provide reports to the BCAS membership on current and potential codes related to environmental, health and safety which would affect the compressed air industry resulting from representation:
a) on the relevant organisations such as Pneurop, BSI, CEN, ISO etc.
b) to governmental organisations seeking industry views.
c) from Membership and then to research topics of interest or concern. The Technical Officer should have knowledge of the industry and membership so they could solicit additional member inputs as he/she researches a topic.
• Communication practices: to enhance the future development of the association the Technical Officer shall be conversant with social media and web based interaction to provide a more inter-active relationship with members and customers.
• Technical content: ensure the association marketing materials such as press releases, articles, e-learning modules, training materials etc. are accurate.
• The development of such material will require not only the input from the Technical Officer but may also require input from various members and outside sources as dictated by their experience, prepare drafts and involve the membership in the editing and final preparation of that material. The Technical Officer will also offer assistance to members on similar company material to ensure accuracy.
• Cooperation in promotion of compressed air: development of technically oriented marketing and PR materials to promote the association and compressed air.
• The Technical officer will develop material in association with the relevant Committee to generate enthusiasm and interest in compressed air and the Association. Monitoring of the website for content and freshness and advising on updates to be consistent with developments in the association.
• Standardisation and best practice: the identification of technical topics that should be addressed in the relevant Committee or its subcommittees and the various working groups.
• Association events: it is anticipated that the Technical Officer will attend events, give technical presentations and report to the Executive Director on activities and areas of interest.
• Independence and impartiality: the Technical Officer shall maintain independence from member companies and remain impartial in all advice given in particular to customers and potential customers of members. No favour shall be given to any brand of either a member of non-member.
Reporting
The Technical Officer reports to the Executive Director who ratifies all projects and time requirements prior to their initiation. All deliverables and metrics will be mutually developed and agreed upon by the Executive Director and the Technical Officer. The Technical Officer is expected to attend the bi-annual Conferences to provide the membership with an update on all approved projects and to be available to attend telephone conferences from time to time as required.
All work requires Board of Directors approval prior to publication.
The ideal individual for this role will be someone who is able to travel, as you will be required to travel to London and also Brussels on occasion through out the year, and who has strong technical knowledge of the compressed air sector.
This is not a role which is designed to progress, however gives the individual the ability to make a positive impact in this field and would suit an individual who is seeking a long term and secure role.
