Our Client has a current vacancy within their expanding Defence Group. The group provides skills that complement those of their design engineering teams supporting the rapidly growing defence and security business. The Company’s work covers the whole TRL range, and this vacancy is for someone who can provide innovative systems engineering skills and experience to a wide range of projects from low TRL concept development through to high TRL engineering design and delivery.

Skills and Experience
You will need to have a good grasp of a wide range of engineering technologies and an ability to make sense of complex, multi-dimensional engineering challenges. You will also have the ability to derive and then communicate system solutions to multidisciplinary engineering teams.

The role will be central to some of our Client’s larger, more complex projects, and include: providing a technical interface to the customer and making sure requirements are both defined and subsequently met; pulling together potentially disparate technical elements in projects and making sure they are cohesive; leading the process of assessing and down selecting potential system designs and resolving system integration problems.

The candidate will be appointed as Technical Lead for one or more projects and will be responsible for completing engineering analyses, specifications, development support, integration and qualification. The role will also involve providing input to technical proposals for future business.

Our Client’s expectation is that a background in electronics hardware or software would be highly suitable for this role, but they will consider other engineering backgrounds.

• A first class academic record is essential.

A successful candidate for this role will have:
• Performed effectively in a significant role on a complex system development, ideally in the defence or security domain.
• Lead systems activities in all phases of the project life cycle.
• Successfully worked with internal team members and external suppliers through the project lifecycle, from requirements development through to integration, test, and delivery.
• Lead complex hardware and software integrations.
• Lead system and subsystem trade studies.

The successful candidate will have key skills in these areas:
• Systems Engineering principles and practice.
• Ability to analyse complex, multi-faceted engineering problems and the ability to work with unfamiliar technologies.
• Design, development, integration and testing of electronic hardware and software.
• Ability to take technical ownership and provide leadership and direction.
• Excellent oral and written skills, able to present complex technical concepts in clear language.
• Excellent customer and supplier relationship management skills.
• Good negotiation skills.

One or more of the following areas of domain experience is desirable:
• Communication systems and signal processing.
• Radar systems and signal processing.
• Electronic surveillance technologies.
• Image processing/analytics.
• Electronic sensing and countermeasures.
• Unmanned systems (sensing, control, autonomy).
• Acoustics and sonar.

Due to the nature of this position, candidates must be willing to undergo, and eligible to achieve, HMG security clearance up to SC level. This position offers a competitive salary and benefits package, including bonus scheme, private medical insurance and pension.
