Our Client has a current vacancy within their expanding Defence Group. The group provides particular skills that complement those of the design engineering teams in support of their rapidly growing defence and security business. The Company’s work covers the whole TRL range, with the engineering teams principally focussed on the higher TRL levels. The vacancy is for someone who can provide skills and experience related mainly to our low TRL activities, for example in concept innovation, modelling and analysis of potential solutions and in technology demonstration.

Skills and Experience
You will need to have a strong analytical ability, but also a good grasp of real-world engineering.
The successful candidate will play a key role in our technology innovation activities, creating new ideas and concepts that will answer enduring technical challenges that our clients face.
It will involve mathematical modelling and simulation of proposed solutions and their environment to assess suitability and potential performance. It will require an understanding of the types of electronic technology that the Company specialise in, and their physical performance and limitations.
You will need to support the engineering teams in the transfer of concepts and ideas into practical technology demonstrations.

• The expectation is that a physics background would be highly suitable for this, but a maths or engineering background may also be suitable.

• A first class academic record is likely to be essential.

A successful candidate for this role will have:
• Created new technical approaches to engineering problems (TRL1-2) and carried them through to concept validation or basic demonstration (TRL3-4), or further.
• Have produced mathematical models of technical concepts, including real-world physical environments, and used them to assess suitability and potential performance of electronic technology, including hardware and software.
• Have worked with at least one of the technology domains listed below.

One or more of the following areas of domain experience is required:
• Communication systems and signal processing.
• Radar systems and signal processing.
• Electronic surveillance technologies.
• Image processing/analytics.
• Electronic sensing and countermeasures.
• Unmanned systems (sensing, control, autonomy).
• Acoustics and sonar.

The successful candidate will have key skills in these areas:
• Strong understanding of physics and engineering from first principles, and ability to use this understanding to generate novel approaches to enduring technical challenges.
• Ability to work with unbounded, or loosely bounded, problems.
• Ability to derive mathematical models for complex, real world systems and environments.
• Ability to take technical ownership for particular projects.
• Excellent oral and written skills, able to present complex technical concepts in clear language.

We would be particularly interested to hear from any candidate who has current or previous employment in an applied research institution (such as a government laboratory) for a period of years.
Due to the nature of this position, candidates must be willing to undergo, and eligible to achieve, HMG security clearance up to SC level. This position offers a competitive salary and benefits package, including bonus scheme, private medical insurance and pension.

Because of the nature of the work undertaken at my clients\' site, this post is required to meet special nationality rules and therefore are only open to British Citizens. All selected candidates will be required to undergo security clearance. The MoD rules state that in order to have access to this level of information, candidates \"must be British as defined in the British Nationality Act 1981\"
