Engineering Technician vacancy in Glasgow (160bh)

This vacancy has now been filled, click here for our current vacancies.
Location: Glasgow
Salary: £33,000 - £37,000
Vacancy type: Permanent
Sectors: Engineering
Placed by: Ex-Mil Recruitment
My client is a major provider of transportation services throughout Scotland and is urgently seeking skilled electrical and mechanical engineering technicians for two depots in the Glasgow area. Vehicle types are varied and must be maintained to the highest engineering standards against tight deadlines. This produces a fast paced, challenging and very satisfying work environment. The client is keen to develop as diverse a workforce as possible, so applications from suitably qualified women will be particularly welcome.

As a key member of the engineering maintenance team, you will be responsible to the depot Maintenance Team Leader for the maintenance, fault finding and repair of different types of vehicles. The post involves working directly on safety critical systems so exacting standards must be maintained at all times.

To be considered for these posts you must have completed a recognised engineering apprenticeship, achieving three NVQs (or equivalent) in electrical and/or mechanical disciplines. Academic qualifications in electrical/mechanical engineering should be at HNC (or higher) standard, though depending on experience NC (or equivalent) qualifications may be considered. All candidates must be flexible, efficient and enthusiastic, with excellent communication and team working skills, and ideally be conversant with ISO 9002 procedures. You must be able to produce copies of trade papers and/or relevant qualifications prior to beginning the formal assessment process for these roles. Due to the demands of shift patterns it would be highly advantageous to have a full driving licence and your own transport. There is a 35 hour working week and both night-time and weekend work will be required as part of the shift pattern.

There is a demanding, time consuming selection process for these posts. After completing a comprehensive on-line application, short-listed candidates will be invited to attend an assessment centre and the process includes formal testing of communication skills, engineering knowledge and skills, and practical fault finding. Due to the nature of these posts and industry safety requirements there are strict medical fitness standards that must be met. You will also be screened for drug and alcohol abuse during the selection process. In addition, candidates must provide a basic Disclosure Scotland check, at least two satisfactory references and complete a six month probation period.

In return for this, my client offers a fully comprehensive training package and a basic salary of £33,666 pa, rising to £37,793 after all training and the probationary period have been completed. There is also a contributory final-salary pension scheme and the offer of free (or well subsidised) travel for you and your family.

Away from work, Glasgow is a fantastic place to live. Its scale and diversity makes it Scotland's liveliest city, renowned for its 'buzz' as well as its creative, cultural, sports and entertainment scene. The city is justifiably proud of its architecture and housing is plentiful, diverse and affordable, ranging from new waterfront developments to elegant Victorian suburbs. Glasgow is a showcase for quality urban design, and boasts the best shopping in the UK outside London. Yet, it is home to over 70 parks, with stunningly beautiful coastlines and mountains close-by.

Before applying for one of these posts, please contact our Scotland Consultant, Bernie Hewitt, for an initial discussion. He can be reached at 0333 202 6500 (Ext 3), on his mobile 07795 233920, or by email at [email protected].
