Main Purpose of Job

The Business Development Manager will be responsible for developing and managing pipeline for sales opportunities in the area of Software Defined Gateways for target markets, including Defence, Secure Government and Law Enforcement. They will have the goals of increasing the volume and quality of opportunities generated for this offering. They will identify a pipeline of opportunities, both opportunities where the requirement is known and ‘winnable’ through to shaping customer thinking and requirements for future opportunities.

Skill set

Knowledge of target markets or the ability to develop that knowledge quickly
Knowledge of our client’s portfolio or the ability to develop that knowledge quickly
Knowledge of cloud environments
Good interpersonal skills to develop productive relationships both internally and externally, with strong networking and relationship capability
Good presentation and communication skills for business/technology and senior leader/engineer audiences
Good initiative skills to find and create opportunities within the market, coordinating the necessary additional skills from within the business

Key Tasks and Responsibilities

External-facing activities of the role will include:
Research potential customers
Build a relationship with the customer
Identify and qualify opportunities
Understand the customer’s operational objectives, user case and environment
Educate the customer on the software defined gateway offering to ensure they understand the value add our client can bring vs our competitors
Develop a pipeline of opportunities that the customers wish to work with our client on
Coordinate the necessary additional skills from within the business to prosecute these opportunities
Represent our client within the industry community to raise our client’s profile by attending events, presenting where appropriate, and participating in relevant working or special interest groups
Internal-facing activities of the role will include:
Collect and feed market intelligence into sales and portfolio management
Customer and opportunity insights
Portfolio insights
Input into market strategy using knowledge of our customer operational objectives, user cases and environments
Input into marketing programme to create and deliver marketing activities targeted at these customers
Support the sales team to enable them to convert these opportunities to contract wins. This could include end customer meetings and bid responses
Maintain a CRM view of our customers and opportunities and execute on a programme of regular engagement

Measures of Success

Number of agreed engagements.
Number and expected value of qualified opportunities created against an agreed target.
Number of wins resulting from these engagements.

Constraints

May be required to work unsociable hours in order to resolve customer difficulties or to achieve project timescales. This may be at short notice in exceptional circumstance.
May be required to work weekends or bank holidays.
Will be required to travel extensively within the UK and occasionally overseas.
