My client, a Fortune 500 Listed company and global leaders in the fuel products and related service sector are now seeking to appoint a Station Manager to join their team.

The Company, provides services at 5 UK airports and their employees are responsible for the safe receipt, storage and handling of aviation fuel at the airport, product quality, stock control and planning, plant and vehicle maintenance and into-plane fuelling.

You will be reporting to the Operations Manager and be based at Southampton Airport with frequent weekly travel to Bournemouth Airport and the main purpose of the role will include:
• Responsibility for the day to day operation of the Company’s refuelling services at Southampton and Bournemouth Airports.
• Ensuring the safe, efficient and correct handling and storage of aviation fuel from receipt into airport storage to delivery into plane.
• Ensuring that all operational and quality control standards are met.

Therefore your Principal Responsibilities will include:
• Operating to the highest standards of Safety, Security, Health and Environment (SSHE) compliance; proactively assessing, identifying and reporting SSHE related matters or incidents; and fully participating and utilising Company Loss Prevention Systems and tools ensuring that product storage and the into-plane fuelling operations are carried out in a safe, environmentally sound manner and in accordance with Company Safety and Operational standards,
• Ensuring that the operation meets the required standards of Company Aviation, Airline and Consortium Inspections.
• Maintaining manpower and planning vehicle utilisation at the location to ensure an efficient operation capable of providing a timely service to airline customers.
• Operating the emergency procedures in the event of incidents.
• Liaising with customers on workloads & schedules; ensuring service requirements are met; and investigating and resolving complaints.
• Liaising with third parties including other “interplane” refuelling companies, supply terminals, Airport Authority and other airport users, Joint venture partners and Company Departments.
• Maintaining a working relationship on behalf of the Company with airport authorities that is focussed on improving the safety performance of the apron area.
• Considering and where appropriate, implementing best practices recommendations by the Company.
• Following up in a timely manner the recommendations of inspections and audits.
• Initially investigating incidents; and working with the Operations Manager to ensure full implementation of recommendations arising from the investigation.
• Identifying issues and potential operating problems; working with the Operations Manager in developing and implementing solutions to improve the operation to maintain a safe cost effective operation.
• Submitting and maintaining the Hydrocarbon Control Practices (HCP) for the location.
• Acting as a focal point for receiving and distributing incoming information to the technician team.
• Supervising Technicians operating in accordance with Company policies and guidelines; assessing of technicians and monthly reporting of staff data for payroll and KPIs e.g. overtime, absence and working time.
• Ensuring training and induction of site contractors takes place.
• Issuing work permits and minor work authorities to contractors to meet Company policies and work practices.

In this role you will have significant networks and contact links with various organisations and personnel which will include:
Internal
• Company Directors, UK Aviation Operations Manager, HR, On Airport Staff, OPS & SSHE Advisor, Security, Supply, Marketing, Engineering and Customer Services.
External
• Airport Fuelling Operations Management, Wing Personnel / Suppliers & Contractors, Airport Authorities, Regulatory Authorities, Contractors, Joint Venture Partners, Airlines and Occupational Health

Supervisory Responsibilities
• Airport Supervisor Bournemouth, Technicians Bournemouth/Southampton, Plant & Vehicle maintenance staff Bournemouth/Southampton

To be eligible for this role you will need the following:
Education Required
• LGV 1 (C+E) driving licence.
• Educated to GCSE level.

Work Experience Required
• Extensive operational experience.
• People management.
• Previous Refuelling experience mandatory
• Aviation Fuelling Systems
• Operations experience within the Aviation Refuelling industry
• Experience of multinational Company controls environment
• Working in a unionised environment desirable

Technical Skills & Specific Knowledge Required
• Strong Microsoft Office (e.g. Word / Excel / PowerPoint) experience.
• Supervisory skills.
• Safe handling, storage, movement of Fuel Products.

• Strong Interpersonal skills.
• Effective communication both written and oral.
• Good attention to detail.
• Able to work on own initiative and self-driven.

Due to the nature of this role you will need to complete Background Checks, as you will need to pass Airport security clearance and a satisfactory Criminal Record Check. You will also be required to attend a pre-placement medical examination.

My client is seeking an individual who lives approximately 45 minute drive from Southampton as the role requires some travel between Southampton and Bournemouth Airports.

This role would suit an individual who has experience of Aircraft Refuelling and therefore would probably be an SNCO/WO or Officer from either the RAF or RN, and a preference would be someone who has plane to plane refuelling knowledge.
