Impact
Your role will be to provide leadership, direction, management, support, and subject matter expertise to grow and develop logistics capability in line with the organisations vision, goals, and plan within the region. Your will build and inspire an effective team of District Logistics Leads and Logistics team members ensure the right equipment is in the right place at the right time in the most cost-effective way.
Expected time commitment: Average 40 hours per month.
Line managed by: Logistics Delivery Manager
What you would be involved in (responsibilities)
• Build a positive volunteering culture by engaging, motivating, supporting, and developing the network of Logistics volunteers across the Region.
• Be an active member of the Regional Leadership Team, contributing to its strategy and planning to achieve the organisation’s goals.
• Create effective regional event logistics plans and ensure district event logistics plans are effective and reviewed.
• Recruit, manage, develop, and support a team of effective District Logistics Leads
• Proactively support the Wellbeing of their team and wider colleagues
• Ensure effective people management practices are undertaken with their team such as 1:1s and volunteer development reviews.
• Recognise and reward the contribution of Logistics volunteers.
• Ensure prudent financial management of given budgets.
• Ensure SJA policies and procedures are complied with.
• Perform any other duties commensurate with these responsibilities, the management level of the post and skills and qualifications of the post-holder.
What are you accountable for:
• This is a ‘primary’ role meaning that the delivery of it should be the first call on the volunteer’s available time commitment to St John. You may also have secondary roles for example in event delivery, such as Event Managers or First Aiders, but the time spent delivering these roles must remain as a secondary priority.
• As part of the management structure Regional Logistics Leads and District Logistics are required to be part of the ‘on call’ team providing cover for all SJA activities in the Region, in line with St John’s Emergency preparedness, resilience and response policy and procedures.
• Willingness to travel throughout the region and attend national events as needed.
• Ensure equipment is always ready for immediate use and champion responsibility for the cleanliness of patient environments which are maintained to a high standard in line with current DoH and SJA IPC recommendations and policy.

You will need to have the following (personal specification):
• Able to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with variety of people (required)
• Experienced in managing logistics over wide geographical area (required)
• Ability to lead, motivate, inspire and support others and build effective teams (required)
• Ability to delegate and prioritise effectively (desirable)
• Able to translate organisational strategy/goals into effective action plans (desirable)
• Ability to use basic computer software and St John IT Systems (desirable)
• Willing and able to role model St John’s HEART values (desirable)

Training & support provided.
The training we will provide for you in your first few months is as follows:
• Welcome programme introducing you to the charity.
• Training on appropriate IT systems and St John policies
• Moving and handling
• Dynamic Risk assessments
The extra training can be provided dependent on specific requirements and interests:
• First Aid training but not essential
• Leadership and management training
• Driver training (if applicable).
• Role specific training including Loading a vehicle; Food hygiene; Setting up a treatment center.
SJA will provide work wear (a uniform) appropriate to the role and you will wear a ‘Logistics’ role bar when undertaking this role.

Although this is a volunteer role initially, you may have the opportunity to apply for full time paid roles within the organisation, as they advertise roles internally before going outside.

Although this is a full time role at the moment due to the current COVID-19 issues, going forwards you could be looking at 10 – 15 hrs per month on average, and you will be part of the team that co-ordinates large public gatherings such as the London Marathon, and other such large scale events
